Wellness Although we are all comfortable talking about cardiovascular issues, mind and brain function, and digestive system, the theme of bladder health is rarely discussed. Whether it is vaguely or totally ignored, issues including urinary bladder and overactive bladder get a small amount of coverage given their prevalence in the world. Research has shown that 17 million Americans may be diagnosed with urinary incontinence and 33 million Americans suffer from overactive bladder. So with these figures, why is it that we rarely hear about these issues? Firstly, urinary incontinence and overactive bladder have been marked as taboo topics, as sufferers are not willing to speak openly about their experiences because they can be uncomfortable and embarrassing to discuss.

THE CANADIAN CONTINENCE FOUNDATION AND THE POWDER ROOM LAUNCH CANADA'S FIRST BLADDER CARE CAMPAIGN
Many Canadians do their best to keep themselves in good health. They pay attention to their oral health, heart health and mental health. All too often though, people ignore the warning signs of poor bladder health. According to The Canadian Urinary Bladder Survey (CUBS 2003), over 20 per cent of Canadians, 18 or older, have bladder problems - costing Canadians over $1.5 billion per year - but are not seeking proper medical help.(1)
